Vorwerks

£40.00

The Vorwerk was developed in Germany in the early 1900s by Oskar Vorwerk (yep, named after the breeder!). His goal was to create a practical, dual-purpose farm bird that was both attractive and useful.

Appearance:

  • They have a striking colour pattern:
    • Rich golden buff body
    • Deep black head, neck, tail, and primary wing feathers
  • The contrast is very bold and beautiful — it’s like a reverse Lakenvelder (which is black with white).
  • They have a single upright comb, clean legs (no feathering), and an athletic, well-proportioned body.

Eggs:

  • Good layers of medium-sized cream to light brown eggs.
  • You can expect around 150–180 eggs per year from a healthy hen.

Size:

  • They’re considered medium-sized birds.
